Nusa Lembongan
Circled by a mixture of pure white-sand beaches and mangrove swamps, the tiny island of NUSA LEMBONGAN (4km by 3km) is sheltered by coral reefs which provide excellent snorkeling and create the perfect conditions for seaweed farming. It is also a major draw for surfers and anyone seeking a few quiet days away from the resorts of southern Bali. All the accommodation is in Jungutbatu on the west coast and southeast of this in Chelegimbai and Mushroom Bay (Tanjung Sanghyang).
Jungutbatu
Ranged along the coast for well over 1 km, the attractive village of JUNGUTBATU is a low-key place, with plenty of losmen and restaurants and a few shops. All the accommodation has attached restaurants offering the usual travelers' fare.
Mushroom Bay
Just a few kilometers southwest of Jungutbatu, the fabulous white-sand cove of Mushroom Bay has long been a favorite snorkeling spot. It's a great place, although don't expect peace once the day-trippers arrive from the mainland. To get to Mushroom Bay from Jungutbatu, either charter a boat or walk around the coast. Climb the steps that lead up from the extreme southern end of the beach at Jungutbatu to a path which leads along the hillside past Coconuts Resort to Coconut Bay, up the far side of the bay to Morin Lembongan and Villa Wayan and on to Chelegimbai beach. Another path leads up from the far southern end of Chelegimbai, and passes above a couple of tiny coves before descending to Mushroom Bay.
